Wallows + Porches
To be honest, Wallows—the poppy indie rock trio from L.A.—only recently landed on my radar. Fronted by a pair of former child actors, their polished tunes are pleasant enough—but don’t quite pack a punch. In contrast, opener Porches has been a consistent source of inventive, emotionally rich bedroom pop for years. Aaron Maine seemed poised to break into larger venues with 2018’s The House, but a string of more lo-fi, adventurous releases since then—while some of his most compelling work—haven’t quite capitalized on that earlier momentum.
