On ‘Precipice’, Indigo De Souza Leaps Into Pop

On her new album Precipice, Asheville singer-songwriter Indigo De Souza leans fully into her pop sensibilities with the help of producer Elliott Kozel (Yves Tumor, SZA). While her previous releases leaned more heavily on indie rock, this evolution feels natural—one she’s been hinting at since her early days. Tracks her 2018 single “NOMOAH” already showcased her versatility and ambition, so it’s exciting to see her continue pushing boundaries instead of settling into a single lane.

Fans of her raw, guitar-driven youth anthems need not worry—she hasn’t traded all her strings for synths. “Heartthrob” is a full-on banger. Precipice is her most expansive record yet, but De Souza’s signature sincerity remains intact. With emotionally resonant lyrics and genre-blurring sound, she’s only solidifying her appeal to fans of artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo—and it wouldn’t be surprising to see her rise to their level of popularity.

De Souza hits the road this fall, including a long-awaited hometown show at The Orange Peel on Nov. 2.
